Delhi the Capital of India, has a fascinating blend of the Ancient and the Contemporary.

A city that has the Medieval Palaces in a peaceful co-existence with the modern architecture.

A city that is a kaleidoscope of cultures. A true Metropolis.

Seasons...
Delhi could be very hot during summer, which is from March to June. The mercury could rise to 44 o'C to 45 o' C. If you plan to visit the city during these time cotton clothes is what you should carry. Also, what you must carry is suntan lotion to save you from the sun and don't forget your shorts and sun-glasses.

July to August is the monsoons in Delhi, which is a moderate amount of rainfall, but The days are a bit hot and humid.

The best time to visit Delhi is the Winters - November through February. The weather is cool and pleasant. Sometimes the temperature could fall as low as 4 -5o C. Do pack in warm clothes if you are visiting around this time. You may encounter extremely cold and foggy days otherwise the days are clear, bright and pleasant.

Festivals...
Delhi being a cosmopolitan city in the true sense of the word, celebrates all the festivals of India with the same amount of enthusiasm, but the most spectacular of all is the 15th of August, the day India celebrates its Independence Day. It is celebrated with a spectacular Parade and a host of other cultural programs.

26th January, the Republic Day is celebrated with the same style. This day commemorates the forming of the Indian republic. If you happen to be in the city, take time out to visit Vijay Chauk to see the Republic day parade. It is a memorable experience.
Holi the festival of colors is around the end of February or the beginning of March, depending upon the Hindu calendar. You may or may not want to partake in playing of colors, but do not miss the various kinds of sweets and other dishes prepared in this festival. You must taste "Ghujiya", sweet condensed milk, wrapped in thin flour "Chapattis", a sweet version of "Samosa" you might say!

Id-ul-Fitr celebrates the end of Ramadan (a 30 day dawn-to-dusk fast). It is a Muslim festival. Dates depend on the lunar movements. This festival is celebrated with a lot of festivity. This also is called "meethi (sweet) id", and tasting the various types of vermicelli and other sweets prepared during this festival is an absolute must.

Dusherra and Durga Puja fall during September-October and are community festivals. You may get a chance to see the huge effigy of "Ravana" (the demon king) being burnt at community places. These festivals basically celebrate "victory of good over evil", thus the burning of Ravana, the evil king.

Deepawali (or Diwali) is the festival of lights! It falls during October-November. You might find the city too noisy at this time, because along with lights (which is the softer part of the story, you'll see beautiful illuminations even in humblest of homes) this is also the festival of firecrackers!

Christmas and New Years Eve is celebrated with much gusto and enthusiasm. It's party time! And the whole city wears a Party look. Delhi is very much fun during this time.
